Wind Circle Sculpture

The Wind Circle — also called the Sacred Circle of Smoke — is a 12-foot sculpture donated to Devils Tower National Monument by internationally renowned Japanese artist Junkyu Muto. Muto designed the sculpture to evoke a puff of smoke rising from a sacred pipe — a deeply meaningful image honoring the spiritual significance of Devils Tower to more than 20 Native American tribes. Carved from white marble with an open center, the sculpture frames a direct view of the Tower looming beyond — creating one of the most photographed perspectives in the monument. The sculpture is located along the spur road to the Belle Fourche Campground, set within a small sitting area designed for quiet reflection. A paved walking path leads from the campground to the sculpture. It is easy to miss — most visitors heading straight to the visitor center never see it. Wildlife frequently congregates in the surrounding area, including deer and prairie dogs from the nearby colony. No entrance fee is required to view the sculpture.
