Spearfish Veterans Monument

The Spearfish Veterans Monument is a "living" granite tribute honoring the men and women of Spearfish who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Located near the Indian Springs Gazebo by Spearfish City Park, beside the Littleton Medal of Honor Memorial, it was created through the joint efforts of American Legion Post 164 and Queen City VFW Post 5860 to honor local veterans in perpetuity. The first granite wall was unveiled in December 2015, carrying roughly 900 names, with later dedications adding more, some dating all the way back to the Spanish-American War in 1898. The monument is designed to grow over time, with new names dedicated each year and additional walls planned until the full design of five walls is complete. It recognizes those who lived in Spearfish for at least a year and completed their service or were honorably discharged. An online name-search tool helps visitors locate a specific veteran's wall and position. Funded by Spearfish residents and the city.
