Spearfish Recreational Trail

The Spearfish Recreation Trail consists of about 7.5 miles of paved pathway for walking, running, and biking, running north to south through the city of Spearfish and along Spearfish Creek, linking the city's parks and campground. It is one of the most complete urban trail systems in the Black Hills. The trail begins at the gateway to Spearfish Canyon on the south end and travels through an eclectic mix of residential, commercial, and forested areas before reaching the northern edge of town. Along the way it passes through City Park, Brady Park, and several smaller green spaces, offering frequent spots to rest, picnic, or wade in the creek. One of the trail's highlights is the D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery, constructed in 1899, offering a museum, educational exhibits, and picnic areas. The route also runs adjacent to Black Hills State University, Spearfish High School, and Spearfish Middle School. The trail is paved, well-maintained, and lit in key sections. Dogs are welcome on leash.
