Spearfish Canyon Disc Golf Course

The Spearfish Canyon Disc Golf Course is a rugged, natural mountain course set at the northern mouth of Spearfish Canyon, widely regarded as one of the best in South Dakota. Built and expanded by the Spearfish Disc Golf Association, it grew from an original 27 holes to a layout of 34-plus with added alternate positions, offering dramatic elevation changes of more than 300 feet across pine-covered terrain. The signature shot is Hole 27, a 240-foot throw off an 80-foot vertical drop known as the "top of the world." Unique touches include four baskets hung from Black Hills pines, a multi-position practice putting green, artificial turf tee pads, and a picnic table at nearly every tee. It's free to play, dog-friendly, and open to all skill levels, though the climbing and walking between holes make it a real workout, so bring plenty of water. Keep an eye out for deer, turkey, and the occasional mountain lion near Hole 10, nicknamed Cougars' Point. A typical round runs about two hours.
