Sitting Bill - Statue of Buffalo Bill Cody in Deadwood, SD.

Sitting Bill

This "Sitting Bill" statue is a slightly humorous take on the famous Wild Bill Hickok.

About

Pull up a chair and take a photo with Wild Bill Hickok! Permanently seated on Main Street, this statue is a reminder of the Wild West and the men whose lives were taken in the old days. This isn't on the site of Wild Bill's murder but it is located nearby. Wild Bill Hickok was shot in the back of the head by Jack McCall, at the Nuttal & Mann's Saloon No. 10 in Deadwood on August 2, 1876 while playing poker, holding two pairs: aces and eights. The hand is known as the "Dead Man's Hand." Wild Bill was buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood. Deadwood still remembers the event with a re-enactment of the Jack McCall trial.
