Rushmore Lions Nature Park

A hidden creekside loop in west Rapid City — the Rushmore Lions Nature Park follows Rapid Creek through the woods just past Canyon Lake. Popular with locals.

About

Rushmore Lions Nature Park is a small, peaceful nature area on the far west edge of Rapid City, jointly operated by the City of Rapid City and the Rushmore Lions Club Charities. Located along Chapel Lane, the park sits just past Canyon Lake and follows Rapid Creek through a quiet corridor of trees and natural vegetation — a spot that feels far removed from the city even though it's squarely within it. The gravel trail is a short loop, easy and wide, with benches placed throughout for resting and taking in the creek. A small spur at the back of the loop leads to a particularly quiet sitting area with creek access — a good spot for a water break or quiet moment. Anglers frequent the creek banks throughout the park. The trail is well-suited for all ages, dogs on leash, and anyone looking for a gentle, uncrowded walk in nature. Finding it takes a little effort — there is limited signage from the main road. Look for the parking area near the Canyon Lake boat ramp off Chapel Lane. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is free to visit.
