Outlaw Square

Outlaw Square is the newest gathering place on Deadwood's historic Main Street, a free public plaza built to give residents and visitors a year-round spot to slow down and take in the town. Opened in 2020, it sits right in the middle of the National Historic Landmark district, framed by the same 19th-century brick facades that have defined Deadwood since the gold rush. In warmer months, the square fills with live concerts, outdoor movie nights, craft fairs, history presentations, and community celebrations, with open space to sit, wander, or let kids burn off energy between stops. When winter arrives, the plaza transforms into an outdoor ice skating rink, drawing skaters under the glow of string lights and the surrounding storefronts. With no admission and a calendar that shifts with the seasons, Outlaw Square has quickly become a natural anchor for downtown gatherings, offering an easy, welcoming pause in the heart of one of the Old West's most storied towns.
