Old Baldy Trailhead

Located about 13 miles south of Spearfish off Tinton Road (FSR 134), Trail #66 is a 5.7-mile loop with a 0.7-mile spur to the 6,096-foot summit of Old Baldy Mountain — roughly 8 miles total. The trail winds through quaking aspen, paper birch, and ponderosa pine, making it especially stunning in fall. From the summit, views stretch to Crow Peak to the north, Ragged Top and Terry Peak to the east, and Cement Ridge to the west. Elevation change on the loop is a modest 300 feet. Open to hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and cross-country skiers. No fees required — free trail maps are available at the trailhead. Winter visitors should note that the Roughlock Falls Road approach (FSR 222) is closed to non-snowmobiles December 15 through March 31; access via Tinton Road from Spearfish instead.
