Harbach Park

Harbach Park is a 1.14-acre green space tucked into a floodplain on Washington Street between 6th and 7th Street. Small in size but big in character, it's one of the most practical and charming parks in the southern Black Hills. The park serves as a Mickelson Trail trailhead — the jumping-off point for the 109-mile rail trail that stretches from Deadwood south to Edgemont, originally the Burlington Northern line. A restored vintage Burlington Northern caboose sits at the trailhead as a nod to that history, and makes a popular photo stop. A small creek runs through the park and crosses under a footbridge — stocked with fish and shaded by mature trees. Amenities include three picnic shelters, a gazebo with tables, handicap-accessible picnic tables, two outdoor barbecue grills, a drinking water fountain, a swing set, and a playground with recently renovated equipment. A bike repair station is on site for Mickelson Trail riders. Restrooms are available across the street at the Chamber building and the public facilities near the tennis courts.
