French Creek Park
About
French Creek Park is a 1.5-acre park located at 4th and Gordon Street in downtown Custer, built about 60 years ago so that ranchers and farmers coming to town on business would have a place to stop and enjoy a picnic lunch.
That original purpose still holds today. Tucked along the banks of French Creek just steps from Main Street, it's a quiet, unhurried green space that locals and visitors both gravitate toward — whether for a creekside lunch break, a place to let the kids stretch their legs, or just a few minutes of calm before heading back out to explore the Black Hills. The George S. Mickelson Trail runs right alongside it, making it a natural rest stop for cyclists and hikers passing through Custer.
It won't compete with the big attractions, but that's exactly the point. Sometimes the best spots are the simple ones.
