Custer State Park: Grace Coolidge Creekside Trail

The Creekside Trail is a hard-surface path running 2.5 miles each way between the Custer State Park Visitor Center and Grace Coolidge Campground, following Grace Coolidge Creek through a peaceful valley in the heart of the park. The trail is easy and accessible to all, including wheelchairs, small children, and cyclists. The mostly flat, asphalt surface makes it one of the most welcoming trails in the park year-round, and fall colors along the creek draw visitors from across the region. Along the way, the trail passes several notable park landmarks — the Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center, a historic wedding venue, the Coolidge General Store, and the trailhead for Lover's Leap. The Grace Coolidge Campground at the far end sits near a popular walk-in fishing area where the trail crosses the stream multiple times. Buffalo occasionally wander onto the trail but do not approach them. The trail is open to walkers, runners, and cyclists, and dogs are welcome on a leash.
