Crow Peak Trailhead
About
Dominating the western horizon of Spearfish, Crow Peak is a premier hiking destination for those seeking a rewarding vertical adventure. The Crow Peak Trail (#64) is a 6.4-mile round-trip trek that climbs approximately 1,600 feet to a summit of 5,760 feet. The path winds through a lush forest of ponderosa pine and bur oak before transitioning into steep switchbacks across rocky talus slopes.
The summit provides a stunning panoramic view. On a clear day, you can see the vast South Dakota prairies, the city of Spearfish below, and the Bear Lodge Mountains of Wyoming to the west. Named for a historic battle between the Crow and Lakota tribes, the peak holds deep cultural significance. Whether you are trail running or hiking to see the vibrant spring wildflowers, Crow Peak is a "must-do" summit that perfectly captures the rugged beauty of the transition from the Great Plains to the Black Hills.
