Bogus System

The Bogus System is a rugged network of approximately 34 miles of trails in the central Black Hills, located west of Rapid City between Highway 44 and Highway 385. This area is known for its rough, rocky terrain and is best suited for experienced off-highway vehicle riders, including dirt bikes and rock crawlers. Unlike many trail systems, there is no single developed trailhead. Access points are scattered along surrounding roads such as Bogus Jim Road, Norris Peak Road, and Highway 44. The maze-like layout offers a mix of technical challenges and forested scenery, making it a popular destination for those looking for a more adventurous and less structured riding experience. Trails are open year-round, but visitors should come prepared, as amenities like water and restrooms are not available. A commonly used access point via Bogus Jim Road (Forest Road 170). This point is just off Highway 44 where Bogus Jim Road begins heading north into the trail system. From here, you’ll quickly connect to multiple OHV trails within the Bogus System.
