Belle Fourche River Walk Trail

A 5-mile paved path that winds throughout Belle Fourche, highlighting the outdoor beauty of the city and the forked rivers that gave the town its name. The trail begins at the Tri-State Museum and Visitor Center and passes by the Geographic Center of the Nation Monument before meandering along the riverbank. The Geographic Center monument — marking the geographical heart of the United States — is one of the most unique roadside landmarks in the country and makes a natural stopping point along the walk. The pathway is accessible year-round and ideal for walking, jogging, and cycling. The concrete surface is smooth, at least 6 feet wide, with a gentle grade of 3% or less, making it accessible for wheelchairs, mobility equipment, and strollers. Benches are available along the route for resting, and van-accessible parking is available at the museum. The Tri-State Museum itself is worth a stop before or after the walk, with exhibits spanning Western heritage, Native American culture, and regional paleontology.
